HP Pavilion g6: Our Deal of the Week
The HP Pavilion g6 is an extremely wallet-friendly notebook that provides just the bare essentials. Perfect for students or for moderate at-home use, the 15.6-inch Pavilion g6 comes equipped with an Intel Core i3 dual-core CPU and 4GB of RAM. This notebook is currently going for $450-529 on HP's website.
The $450 Pavilion g6 model comes built with an Intel Pentium processor P6200 at 2.13GHz and fewer features than our review unit. The $529 Pavilion g6 model comes equipped with an Intel Core i3-370M processor at 2.4GHz and a larger-capacity hard drive than our review unit.
The HP Pavilion g6 has a mixed silver and black design covered in glossy plastics. In our review, we said the notebook is sturdy for a budget-priced notebook. It has a hard, decently-built chassis and palm rests, as well as firm display hinges.
The g6 has a full-sized keyboard with flat square-top, chiseled keys. We said that overall, the keyboard has a solid underbase and provides an about average experience. We said that the touchpad is good; it's also textured to help with cursor movement.
During our performance tests we found that our g6 review unit would be good for basic tasks such as browsing the Internet and using Office productivity tools. In our benchmark tests the unit scored just a bit lower than the Lenovo G570 budget notebook and higher than the Toshiba Satellite A665 in terms of overall system performance. The 6-cell Li-ion battery (10.8V, 4200mAh) lasted 4 hours and 45 minutes during our battery life test.
